The LIMAB ProfiCura 2D laser sensor family includes our range of laser profile sensors, also referred to as light section sensors. The LIMAB ProfiCura Smart 2D is a version where pre-defined measurement modes can be selected and configured. All calculations are done within the sensor and measurement results are directly communicated from the sensor on Ethernet or a variety of Fieldbus interfaces. The ProfiCura Smart 2D is the perfect sensor for system builders due to the simple integration.

Operating Principle
All ProfiCura Smart 2D sensors use the principle of optical 2D laser triangulation. All measurement algorithms are integrated in the sensor and measurement results are communicated on Ethernet or fieldbus interfaces.

Measuring Principle
The ProfiCura Smart 2D uses the principle of 2D laser based optical triangulation. A laser line is projected on to the surface of the material being measured. The laser line is diffusely reflected by the surface and this light is focused back on to a CMOS matrix by a high quality lens system. The processor of the sensor converts the pixel values to coordinates (x,y) using a unique calibration look up table stored within the sensor.
Selectable measurement modes
The ProfiCura Smart 2D has a number of selectable and pre-defined measurement modes. All measurement algorithms are integrated in the sensor and values are communicated directly out from the sensor.
Fieldbus interfaces
There is a large number of available and sensor integrated interfaces, either Ethernet or different Fieldbus interfaces such as ProfiBus and Modbus.
Master-slave configuration
Several ProfiCura Smart 2D sensors can be configured together as Master – Slaves. Measurement results will then be communicated by the sensor defined as Master.
Automatic exposure control
The ProfiCura Smart 2D adapts the exposure time automatically to optimize the measuring performance irrespective of the type of material that is being measured. This means that accurate and repeatable measurements are always possible even on surfaces that are of different colors or have large changes in reflectivity. There is also a possibility to manually configure the exposure time.

Proven design
LIMAB has been developing laser sensors for more than 30 years. This experience has been brought into the ProfiCura sensor family. Today the ProfiCura Smart 2D is a robust, rugged and versatile laser triangulation sensor for dimensional measurements.
Simple integration
The ProfiCura Smart 2D is powered by a single 24VDC supply. Calibrated measurements are available straight from the sensor using either the standard Ethernet or fieldbus interfaces. This makes interfacing to existing PLC’s or other computer system very straight forward.
Easy to configure
The ProfiCura Smart 2D is supplied with a simple Windows software to configure the sensor.
No external controller
There is no need for an external PC or controller to run the ProfiCura Smart 2D. Measurement results straight out from the sensor
Rugged construction
The design of the ProfiCura Smart 2D ensures the suitability for use in all types of tough industrial environments with years of trouble free operation.
