Measurement solutions for the production of strips

LIMAB offers several measurement systems for different applications in the production of strips, slabs and heavy plates.

ThicknessProfiler – Measurements of thickness and width of cold strips, slabs and plates

The ThicknessProfiler is a non-contact laser based system for in-line measuring of cold strips, slabs and plates. The system measures thickness and width and is suitable for installation in pickling or slitting lines, quality inspection for cold slabs and heavy plates. A LIMAB non-contact system ensures accurate measurements at high production speed. The system provides users with an invaluable tool for monitoring the process and improve the production yield.

Software
The system provides easy to read real time 2D and 3D profile graphs, numerical values with warning and out-of-tolerance limits indicated so that the operators instantly can see where process issues are developing.

The software is designed for client/server mode with the possibility of connecting up to 10 clients to one server. The client has an operator interface which displays the measurement results in numerical values, in different trend graphs, in 2D cross sections views as well as a 3D graphical view. All measured values are logged to a database, which makes it possible to replay all measurements for different post production analyses and claims. Network TCP/IP is provided to Level 2 and for remote support

3D presentation
The operator interface includes a 3D presentation of the slab. This feature gives the possibility to rapidly detect caster problems like mould wear or cooling problems.

Forced air cooling
The ThicknessProfiler is delivered with a forced air cooling system that makes installation simple, reduces the running costs and keeps the internal temperature of the gauge stable. In addition the air is used to keep the optics clean eliminating regular maintenance.

Temperature stabilized mounting frames
To ensure stable and accurate measurement in a plant environment that can vary in temperature, LIMAB has developed several different unique temperature and mechanically stable mounting frames. This ensures long term stability and eliminates the need for frequent calibration.

Calibration
The ThicknessProfiler is delivered with a calibration tool for the system calibration. The calibration procedure takes 10-15 minutes to perform.

Turn-key solution
LIMAB can provide a complete turn-key solution. The ThicknessProfiler includes all hardware, LIMAB-made sensors and software needed for any mill installation. LIMAB provide commissioning, training and on-going product support and service.

In-line quality control
Continuous, consistent, monitoring of product thickness and width can reduce scrap and improve plant efficiency. There are no time delays as between manual inspections and a quick feedback at product changes. No out-of-tolerance products will be sent out to customers. Production can be monitored from many different places in the plant. Production reports and statistics are generated.

LIMAB has been producing laser sensors for more than 30 years and we offer a 3 year warranty on PreciCura sensors. We also have in-house design and production of all the other system parts such as mechanical frames and system software. The ThicknessProfiler system has been produced for more than 15 years, with many installations around the world. It has constantly over the years been updated and upgraded with new functions according to the demands of the market.
